Import duty calculator for Etsy sellers
Shipping DDP means you pay the US import duty before the parcel arrives, plus whatever your carrier charges to pay it for you: Royal Mail lists £0.50 a parcel for USA PDDP, UPS 2% of the duty (minimum $5), FedEx the greater of $17.50 or 2.5%. This calculator adds those to the duty and Etsy’s fees, then solves for the US price that keeps your profit. See postal vs courier DDP.
Questions
Who pays US import duty on an Etsy order?
For US orders from outside the US, Etsy expects Delivered Duty Paid shipping, so the seller pays the duty through the carrier. Tariffs charged to buyers can be deducted from the seller.
Is there still a $800 de minimis for parcels?
Not for mail: CBP has indefinitely suspended de minimis for postal shipments, which now use postal informal entry up to $2,500.
Do carrier fees count?
Yes. Couriers charge a disbursement fee for advancing duty, and it can be larger than the duty on a cheap item. The calculator compares carriers side by side.
