US tariffs on goods from Canada: DDP price calculator
Goods of Canada entering the US pay General rate + 10% under HTS heading 9903.05.29 (USITC). The calculator below is set up for a Canada Etsy shop; change anything.
How the duty works for Canada goods
| Item (HTS line) | General rate | Total with 9903.05.29 | Duty on a $40 item |
|---|---|---|---|
| Candle (3406.00.00.00) | Free | 10% | $4.00 |
| Ceramic mug (not porcelain) (6912.00.44.00) | 10% | 20% | $8.00 |
| Knitted wool scarf (6117.10.10.00) | 9.6% | 19.6% | $7.84 |
General rates read from the bundled HTS Revision 22 (2026), synced 2026-11-03. Your exact line may differ: find it in the HTS lookup. Duty is charged on the customs value, normally the item price; the calculator also adds Etsy and carrier fees.
USMCA changes the answer. Goods that qualify as originating under USMCA (CUSMA) and are claimed pay the HTS Special “S” rate, usually Free, and are exempt from the Canadian add-on (heading 9903.05.93). Rules of origin are product-specific (CBP; Government of Canada). Tick “Goods qualify for USMCA” in the calculator to apply it. From January 20, 2027, postal shipments that claim a free-trade agreement need formal entry unless the carrier uses the Entry Type 13 test (Federal Register).
Etsy fees for a Canada bank account
| Transaction fee | 6.5% of item price + shipping (Etsy) |
| Payment processing | 3% + CAD 0.25 per order (Etsy) |
| Regulatory operating fee | 0.5% (Etsy) |
| Listing currency | CAD |
These percentages are charged on the tariff-inclusive price, so part of the fee is a fee on the duty (fees on fees). More detail: Canada to US: USMCA, duties and DDP pricing for makers.
FAQ
What is the US duty on goods from Canada?
As of HTS Revision 22 (2026), heading 9903.05.29 sets the rate for most goods of Canada: the normal HTS General rate plus 10%, with listed product exceptions.
Do Canadian goods pay the 10% if they qualify for USMCA?
No. USMCA-originating goods that are claimed are covered by heading 9903.05.93 and do not pay the 10% add-on under 9903.05.29. Goods that do not qualify, or are not claimed, pay the General rate plus 10%.
What Etsy fees apply with a bank account in Canada?
The 6.5% transaction fee on item price plus shipping, payment processing of 3% + CAD 0.25 per order, and a 0.5% regulatory operating fee (Etsy fee pages, checked 2026-11-03). The calculator charges them on the tariff-inclusive price.
Does Etsy require DDP for US orders from this country?
Etsy’s rule covers every seller shipping to US buyers from outside the US: since July 9, 2026 US orders need Delivered Duty Paid shipping to keep Etsy Purchase Protection, and tariffs charged to buyers can be deducted from the seller. Where no DDP service exists, the listing must say duties are not included and the buyer must get an estimate before shipping.
